Until Next Time
A brief (on a cosmic scale) hiatus, to focus on writing a new book.
I am taking a break from writing my posts for at least the next year. I’ve recently signed a book deal with a major publisher for writing about building robust AI systems for high-stakes domains. As such, I will also be using most of my daily writing time (early morning) to focus on this higher-priority piece.
All things considered, I think keeping this blog has gone much better than I expected. My original goals were a combination of learning through writing, as well as finding a more consistent place to store my writings previously scattered around the internet. I’ve been surprised by how much attention this has all gotten, both online and offline.
My under-investigated fields post received a ton of attention. My Review of the movie “Contagion” from years back and using statistics to determine the veracity of COVID death figures received a ton of attention during 2020. Some of my posts like “Messing with GPT-Neo” are inexplicably listed as academic citations on Google Scholar (I don’t know how this happened either). I’ve met a master’s student who cited my bayesian neural network post in their master’s thesis work. Meeting people like this makes writing much more fun. Nonetheless, expect there to be a longer than usual gap between posts this time.
I might use this time to make some changes to the core site. Aesthetically I think things are pretty good (maybe a few CSS changes here and there). I might make some minor layout tweaks and speed improvements to make this site more accessible.
One of my original goals for migrating my writing to a self-hosted Gatsby.js blog was long-term preservation of my writing. As such, I’m going to figure out how to make this site even more resistant to the link rot and platform deterioration that happens in the modern internet (probably in the form of buying a bunch of Perma.cc links and switching most of the external links with those). When I return someday (at least a year from now), I’ll update you all on how those stability upgrades went.
Until next time 😄
